During the disclosure period, the following cities had disclosed their environmental data and good practices to the CDP-ICLEI Unified Reporting System: Aarhus (Denmark), Tallinn* (Estonia), Espoo (Finland), Turku (Finland), Helsinki (Finland), Porvoo (Finland), Kemi (Finland), Lahti (Finland), Rostock 

Following Lahti (Finland) - this year's European Green Capital - in 2023 is the City of Tallinn (Estonia). Tallinn was awarded the title earlier this month with the European Commission especially highlighting Tallinn's initiatives reflecting the ambitions of the European Green Deal.

The CASCADE project brought together civil protection professionals and climate change adaptation experts to build urban resilience in cities and towns, as well as the overall macro–regional resilience. Among the nine partners of the CASCADE project, there were three UBC member cities (Turku, Liepaja, and Hamburg) and the Safe Cities Commission and the Sustainable Cities Commission involved.

At present, there are many processes and developments in the port area of Turku. The new joint ferry terminal building for shipping companies Viking Line and Tallink Silja is scheduled for opening at the end of 2025. Also, new mobility arrangements (transport connections to the passenger port, port field recreational area and redesigning Linnanniemi area) will be implemented. The adjacent Linnakaupunki residential area is being built.

CDP is offering the cities an opportunity to check their responses and get feedback before the final submission. In order to get feedback, please contact before 25 June 2021. If we continue to travel as we do today, as half of all trips made in Örebro are car journeys, the number of trips by car increases by about 35%. With such an increase, the existing space in our street and traffic system is not enough. We need to stop this development with more vehicles and focus on a efficient solution for how people will be able to transport themselves through the city in the future.

The two pilot mobility points are located in the area of Antakalnis at public transport stops and were taken into use just a few weeks ago. At the multimodal mobility points, citizens can park their (electric) bikes or scooters safely, charge them if needed and then switch to public transport or continue the journey by foot.

For that purpose, we organized an information & consultation day on 7 May 2021, starting with an online event especially designed for our member cities.

This publication was developed within the platform project BSR WATER as one of its key outputs. The report was prepared by the project partner Riga City Council with support from BSR WATER partners, and it is based on the surveys and interviews with 25 cities from 10 countries around the Baltic Sea. The cities that contributed to the survey – many of those UBC members!

Sustainable development is a declared goal in the university and Hanseatic city of Greifswald. Under Citizen Participation, the city is working on a comprehensive Sustainability strategy. Numerous actors from politics, administration and business and free initiatives are involved in the areas of climate and environmental protection, democracy, anti-racism, social participation and fair trade.

Though visiting model cities would be the best option to learn about successful projects, the pandemic situation has challenged us in many ways when it comes to traveling and gathering. As a result, we proposed four online meetings to take place once a month from February to May with a focus on biking, public transport, car-free city centers and urban electromobility.

In cooperation with the Wuppertal Institute and supported by the Zero Waste Kiel Association, the city of Kiel developed a 270 pages long term zero waste-strategy in a large participatory process. Beneath two main targets for the whole city, the strategy includes 107 measures and 18 sector-specific goals for waste prevention in the sectors educational institutions, households, industry, retail and events as well as public administration and waste management.
