Good things come to those who wait – multimodal mobility points opened in Vilnius!

Vilnius mobility point
Changed

After facing a row of challenges in implementation, not at least through the Covid-19 pandemic, our cities.multimodal project partners, the City of Vilnius and the Vilnius Public Transport Department “Susisiekimo paslaugos” happily announced the opening of two multimodal mobility points!

The two pilot mobility points are located in the area of Antakalnis at public transport stops and were taken into use just a few weeks ago. At the multimodal mobility points, citizens can park their (electric) bikes or scooters safely, charge them if needed and then switch to public transport or continue the journey by foot.

These multimodal mobility points are the next step to increase multimodality in the urban transport system of the city and should encourage Vilnius resident to use different modes of mobility without compromising the comfort of seamlessly moving around the city.

The bicycle and scooter parking facility makes it possible to safely leave your vehicle while you continue with your journey. The service is under video surveillance 24h a day and using one of the 48 slots is free of charge for everyone over 14 years old and holding a Vilnius card.

The two opened mobility points are serving as pilots, to test how this new service will be used and accepted by the citizens. For the future the city and its transport company are planning to enlarge the network of mobility points and include even more modes f transport and related services, e.g. bike sharing etc.

Providing sustainable urban mobility options is one of the priorities of the city – according to the objectives in their Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan (SUMP) Vilnius wants to increase the modal split of active modes and public transport by 2030.
