Turku published a model for joint cooperation and development for the port area

At present, there are many processes and developments in the port area of Turku. The new joint ferry terminal building for shipping companies Viking Line and Tallink Silja is scheduled for opening at the end of 2025. Also, new mobility arrangements (transport connections to the passenger port, port field recreational area and redesigning Linnanniemi area) will be implemented. The adjacent Linnakaupunki residential area is being built.

BRT (Bus Rapid Transit) Örebro

If we continue to travel as we do today, as half of all trips made in Örebro are car journeys, the number of trips by car increases by about 35%. With such an increase, the existing space in our street and traffic system is not enough. We need to stop this development with more vehicles and focus on a efficient solution for how people will be able to transport themselves through the city in the future.

Good things come to those who wait – multimodal mobility points opened in Vilnius!

The two pilot mobility points are located in the area of Antakalnis at public transport stops and were taken into use just a few weeks ago. At the multimodal mobility points, citizens can park their (electric) bikes or scooters safely, charge them if needed and then switch to public transport or continue the journey by foot.

Greifswald: a model city for sustainable education and mobility

Sustainable development is a declared goal in the university and Hanseatic city of Greifswald. Under Citizen Participation, the city is working on a comprehensive Sustainability strategy. Numerous actors from politics, administration and business and free initiatives are involved in the areas of climate and environmental protection, democracy, anti-racism, social participation and fair trade.

Sustainable and Green Cities: Rostock Webinars Primary tabs

Though visiting model cities would be the best option to learn about successful projects, the pandemic situation has challenged us in many ways when it comes to traveling and gathering. As a result, we proposed four online meetings to take place once a month from February to May with a focus on biking, public transport, car-free city centers and urban electromobility.

As part of the HUPMOBILE-Holistic Urban and Peri-urban Mobility project, the Borough of Altona, representing Hamburg, developed a concept for “last mile” logistics. The term “last mile” refers to distribution within an urban space, especially parcel delivery with cargo bikes.

The webinar series consists of four sessions, each devoted to a specific project theme. The first session covered the Living Street cases of Tartu (EST) presented by Kaspar Alev, and Gdansk (POL) presented by Magdalena Szymanska. A Living Street is a street or an intersection that is temporarily closed from motorized traffic and is made into an urban living room for the citizens to enjoy.

Turku as a pioneer in smart mobility

To reach the aim of becoming carbon neutral by 2029, the transition to urban smart sustainable mobility is crucial – mobility in 2029 will consist primarily of walking, cycling, electric public transport and sharing of vehicles and citizens will look at mobility as a service.
