The UBC TALKS webinar on 26 March will focus on the topic of mapping and monitoring PFAS in cities. The dialogue will be organised with the experts in EMPEREST project who will introduce PFAS risks and highlight local and regional contexts to mapping hotspots and organising a regional methodology for monitoring and assessment. The event will be joined by the coordinator of EUSBSR PA Hazards to highlight the strategic goals and contexts of the topic.

The Energy Week focuses on renewable energies, smart energy, gas energy and energy storage. Topics of interest include digitalization, batteries and storage, circular economy, future smart cities, energy regulation, business and innovation. The next EnergyWeek will take place on 18-24 March 2024 – save the date!

The range of the events within the European Ocean Days will include the Mission Restore our Ocean & Waters Forum, the event Where next for Europe's Seas?, the BlueInvest Day, and the event Ocean Literacy in Action. What to expect:

The UBC TALKS webinar on 27 February at 10.30-12.00 EET / 9.30-11.00 CET will bring inspiration and knowledge needed to start transnational cooperation and to secure funding for actions leading to innovative and climate-smart cities!

This international conference will bring together researchers, decision-makers, specialists and other stakeholders interested in planetary health, sustainability and wellbeing. Participation includes 3 days of transdisciplinary sessions, discussions, presentations and posters that spur transformative action through scientific knowledge.

The EMPEREST project 1st workshop will take place on 12-14 February 2024 in Tartu, Estonia. The title of the event is "Raising awareness and initiating actions towards socio-environmental resilience to PFAS".

On 30 November 2023, HELCOM will organise an expert meeting for proceeding with the tasks on PFAS monitoring within EMPEREST project. Earlier in 2023, HELCOM established a “PFAS monitoring task force”, inviting experts from the region to join it. The meeting in the end of November will include the continuation of the expert work on the monitoring strand of EMPEREST activities.

The UBC TALKS webinar on 28 November will focus on one of the most pressing challenges the cities are facing – the plastic pollution. We will discuss how forerunning BSR cities address sustainable plastic management in their strategies and action plans.

With Green Public Procurement as a central theme, the conference recognizes its vital role in implementing green governance and promoting sustainable consumption and production. Local governments possess significant potential to achieve sustainability goals through their procurement processes, particularly by ensuring they are not just climate-neutral but also circular and free from harmful toxins. During the event, the first-ever NonHazCity Award for tox-free, circular and climate-neutral buildings and building processes at municipalities will be launched.

Cleantech Forum Europe is held in Tallinn, Estonia on November 14-16, 2023. The participants form a diverse group of start-ups, scale-ups, investors, corporates, government and even more. The forum will focus on the most relevant topics of today, lead by experts with ideas on how to create cleaner world. Several companies from outside of Europe will be present as well and ready to explore new connections and cooperation opportunities with European regions. The conference in Palanga will bring UBC together to discuss how to support Ukrainian cities and their eventual reconstruction. Presentations, discussions, and workshops prepared by the UBC Commissions will provide new ideas and inspire the UBC and its member cities to cooperate with a new impetus.

This event is organized by our colleagues at Hamburg University of Applied Sciences and marks the inauguration of a series of initiatives aimed at engaging companies across the Baltic Sea Region.
