UBC Sustainable Cities Commission meeting at the Baltic Active Mobility 2026 conference

UBC Sustainable Cities Commission meeting at the Baltic Active Mobility 2026 conference

Gdynia from the seaside

This year, the focus of the annual meeting of our Sustainable Cities Commission is active mobility! We warmly welcome UBC members to the Commission meeting, organised back-to-back with our large conference “Baltic Active Mobility 2026: Shaping Future Cities” on 7-9 September 2026 in Gdynia, Poland.

This three-days event is hosted by the UBC member City of Gdynia and is co-organised by the UBC Sustainable Cities Commission (lead partner of the SUMPs for BSR project).

Sustainable Cities Commission meeting 2026

On 7 September 2026, the pre-conference day will feature the UBC SCC Commission meeting (afternoon) and site visits in Gdynia. We warmly welcome representatives from UBC member cities and beyond to join it, as we discuss emerging trends across different sustainability and climate topics, co-create priorities and joint actions for the coming year, and explore funding opportunities that support real, local impact. This is more than a meeting – it’s an opportunity to influence the strategic direction of the Commission’s work.

We strongly encourage representatives from UBC member cities as well as partners beyond to take part and bring your perspective to the table!

On 8-9 September, two full conference days will dive specifically into the topic of active urban mobility:

Baltic Active Mobility 2026

The conference “Baltic Active Mobility 2026: Shaping Future Cities” on 8-9 September 2026 is organised by the Interreg Baltic Sea Region Programme projects SUMPs for BSR and BATS supporting cities in accelerating the transition towards active and sustainable urban mobility.

This conference brings together practitioners, experts and decision makers at local, regional and national level across the Baltic Sea Region to explore how active mobility and strong Sustainable Urban Mobility Plans (SUMPs) can shape healthier, more resilient and future-ready cities.

Keynote speakers include Dr. Stefanie Wodrig (Deputy Director of the Department for Northern and Eastern Europe and Baltic Sea Cooperation, Hamburg Senate Chancellery) and Jim Walker (CEO, Walk21), alongside a special contribution from Karen Vancluysen (Secretary General, Polis).

The conference will combine strategic debate with practical exchange and peer learning, creating space for both political dialogue and hands-on insights. The agenda will address key questions around the future of active mobility and Sustainable Urban Mobility Plans (SUMPs) in the Baltic Sea Region. A dedicated high-level representative exchange will bring together European, national and local decision-makers to discuss how cities can accelerate the transition towards climate-neutral, resilient and healthy mobility systems, and how governance, policy frameworks and funding can better support this shift.

In addition, the programme will highlight practical experiences from cities, innovative approaches to implementation and monitoring, citizen engagement, and cross-border cooperation. Participants can expect interactive formats, inspiring examples, and opportunities for direct exchange across levels of governance.
