Investing in competitive blue growth - smart and sustainable solutions European Maritime Day is the annual meeting point for Europe’s maritime community to network, discuss, and forge joint action. Its ninth edition will take place in Turku, Finland with a stimulating conference on 18-19 May 2016 and an attractive lineup of activities for the general public on 20-22 May 2016.

The 8th European Conference on Sustainable Cities & Towns, held from 27-29 April 2016 in the Basque Country will be hosted by ICLEI - Local Governments for Sustainability, the Basque Government, Bizkaia County Council and Bilbao City Council, with the involvement of Udalsarea 21 - Basque Network of Municipalities for Sustainability, in partnership with other international networks and organisations.

This one day seminar is looking for concrete opportunities to save the Baltic Sea by reducing nutrient loading from scattered settlements and waste water treatment sludge management. It brings together implementers with policy makers and representatives of funding instruments around the Baltic Sea region. The seminar is free of charge and meant for anyone interested in project development and possibilities for regional cooperation.

This is the principal annual event for all those involved in turning the Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan concept into practice. A Historic Convening of Local Leaders - Fighting Climate Change On December 4, Anne Hidalgo, Mayor of the City of Paris and Michael R. Bloomberg, the UN Secretary-General’s Special Envoy for Cities and Climate Change – in partnership with the global networks of cities and local governments for climate action – will co-host the Climate Summit for Local Leaders – the largest global convening of mayors, governors and local leaders focused on climate change.

From 30 November to 11 December 2015, Paris will chair and host the 21st Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP21). Since 1995, the COP has been held each year in a different country and attended by the 196 parties (195 states + the European Union) that have ratified the Convention to review implementation of the Convention and negotiate new commitments.  

This year's Annual Polis Conference on "Transport innovation for sustainable cities and regions" will take place on 19 and 20 November 2015 in Brussels. Side events and Polis' Annual General Assembly (AGA) are scheduled for 18 November.

The XIII UBC General Conference will be held in Gdynia on 27–30 October 2015. Invited representatives of UBC member cities, Baltic and European governmental and non-governmental institutions and organisations will discuss  smart city development. The economic, environment, energy, safety, cultural, equality and other challenges the smart development faces nowadays – all these will be the theme of the discussion panels and workshops.
