EUSBSR Annual Forum is the annual meeting place for the people involved in transnational cooperation and implementing the EU Strategy for the Baltic Sea Region. The event offers a forum for policy dialogue and introduces the macro-regional approach to new groups of actors.

Sustainable transformation for resilient coastal city Gdańsk is the Polish maritime capital with the population reaching half a million. It is a large center of economic life, science, culture and a popular tourist destination.

The program of the EMPEREST international workshop will focus on the topic “Technical solutions for removing organic micropollutants from wastewater”.

Faced with recurrent water-related crises, this edition of the EU Green Week 2024 annual conference will debate what is needed to make the EU more water resilient, today and tomorrow. Water is a vital shared resource to be passed down from generation to generation and one of the essentials for people, the environment and a just, sustainable, and resilient economy.

With a 2030 target, the EU Mission "Restore our Ocean and Waters" aims to protect and restore the health of our ocean and waters through research and innovation, citizen engagement and blue investments. The Mission’s approach addresses the ocean and waters as one and plays a key role in achieving climate neutrality and restoring nature.

The UBC TALKS webinar on 26 March will focus on the topic of mapping and monitoring PFAS in cities. The dialogue will be organised with the experts in EMPEREST project who will introduce PFAS risks and highlight local and regional contexts to mapping hotspots and organising a regional methodology for monitoring and assessment. The event will be joined by the coordinator of EUSBSR PA Hazards to highlight the strategic goals and contexts of the topic.

The range of the events within the European Ocean Days will include the Mission Restore our Ocean & Waters Forum, the event Where next for Europe's Seas?, the BlueInvest Day, and the event Ocean Literacy in Action. What to expect:

The EMPEREST project 1st workshop will take place on 12-14 February 2024 in Tartu, Estonia. The title of the event is "Raising awareness and initiating actions towards socio-environmental resilience to PFAS".

On 30 November 2023, HELCOM will organise an expert meeting for proceeding with the tasks on PFAS monitoring within EMPEREST project. Earlier in 2023, HELCOM established a “PFAS monitoring task force”, inviting experts from the region to join it. The meeting in the end of November will include the continuation of the expert work on the monitoring strand of EMPEREST activities.

As the first of the four Macro-Regional Strategies in Europe, the Baltic Sea Region Strategy has always been a front-runner, be it innovation ecosystems, sustainability-oriented citizens, or energy security goals. Countries from the Baltic Sea Region are working together to develop renewable energy sources and to improve energy efficiency. In addition, much effort is being put into the promotion of regional trade and investment, and improving interconnections between the countries in the region and beyond.

Policy Area Nutri of the EU Strategy for the Baltic Sea Region invites all wastewater treatment professionals and authorities to a seminar to discuss how wastewater treatment sector has developed over time, lessons-learnt and best practices gained and developed recently, and what is the water sector in BSR is working on nowadays.
