The focus of the Sustainable Cities Commission meeting 2026 is active mobility! We warmly welcome UBC members to the meeting, organised back-to-back with our large conference “Baltic Active Mobility 2026: Shaping Future Cities” on 7-9 September 2026 in Gdynia, Poland.

Climate impacts, demographic change and growing security pressures are already affecting us and our communities. The tides are shifting, and so must we. The Forum offers a timely space to exchange experience, align priorities and strengthen cooperation across borders on resilience – how to withstand disruption, adapt and continue to function well when challenges occur, and bounce back better.

At the UBC TALKS webinar on 7 October 2025 (09.30–11.00 CEST / 10.30–12.00 EEST), experts and city representatives will explore how monitoring frameworks and innovative pilots help cities support active mobility and achieve their climate goals. Join municipalities from across the Baltic Sea Region as they share their practical experiences, and learn how to kick-start monitoring and evaluation in your city and strengthen your city’s Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan (SUMP).

Together with Copenhagen Malmö Port (CMP), World Maritime University (WMU), and Union of the Baltic Cities (UBC) - the City of Malmö is hosting a pivotal conference on Future-proofing Our Port Cities, taking place 30 September – 1 October 2025. The conference brings together decision-makers, representatives from business, academia and the public sector from across Europe to jointly discuss future strategies for Europe's coastal and port cities in light of climate change.

This biennial event is an opportunity to contribute to the EU policy agenda for cities, exchange ideas, explore bold solutions and connect with like-minded professionals working to shape the future of cities. Attendees will participate in site visits, exhibitions and interactive discussions on pressing urban challenges, including affordable housing, climate resilience, and the digital transition. The event "The changing landscape of Sustainable Urban Mobility Planning" will include inspiring presentations and an engaging workshop. You will hear about guidance and recommendations from the European Commission and learn about the revised TEN-T regulation, and dive into the experiences from Sweden on sustainable urban mobility. Directions and expectations, and how well the cities are prepared for the requirements - exciting discussions await!

Visit Visby in October for co-creation, policy dialogues and of course networking! Interactive workshops, panel discussions, and seminars invite participants to discuss challenges and to elaborate on solutions. Central to the forum, policy dialogues address the strategic objectives of the EUSBSR. These discussions range from large plenary sessions to focused panels, each tackling key aspects of the Strategy and exploring solutions to enhance the Baltic Sea Region’s development. The Networking Village serves as a social hub for informal exchanges and spontaneous connections.

Join us on 24 September 2024 for an insightful UBC Talks webinar where we will delve into the potential of Sustainable Urban Mobility Plans (SUMPs). As cities across the Baltic Sea Region aim for climate neutrality and the wellbeing of their citizens, SUMPs gain a foothold as a strategic tool to promote active and sustainable mobility.

Sustainable transformation for resilient coastal city The event will focus on Gdańsk harbour and riverside areas as case studies, allowing creative flow and exchange of experiences among representatives of different UBC cities. The development strategy of Gdańsk encourages seeking new solutions and implementing adaptive measures to make public spaces more green, inclusive and accessible. At the joint seminar, we will get to plan such spaces together – as a group of sustainability experts, city planners, and architects.
