Annual Forum 2022 takes place in Lappeenranta - meet our commission presenting at the climate session and chat with us at the stand in the Networking village!

The European Urban Resilience Forum (EURESFO) is a unique exchange platform for city representatives, experts and stakeholders from local and regional institutions to discuss strategies, initiatives and actions for adapting to climate change, managing disasters and building urban resilience. The event is a European initiative driven by ICLEI Local Governments for Sustainability and the European Environment Agency (EEA) since 2013, and this year will be co-organised by the City of Athens.

Learn about smart development of the urban water sector – from experiences of the forerunner in this field City of Gdańsk! In June this year, the UBC Sustainable Cities Commission, together with Gdańsk University of Technology, will open up a discussion on "Accelerating the transition to clean and healthy Baltic Sea". Warm welcome to the water sector-focused two-days online conference on 9–10 June 2021! The conference is organized by the BSR WATER platform, co-hosting the final conference of the Revivng Baltic Resilience project (led by Gdańsk University of Technology).

The CASCADE (Community Safety Action for Supporting Climate Adaptation and Development) project brought together civil protection professionals and climate change adaptation experts to build urban resilience and to improve the capacity to understand, assess, and treat current and future climate change related risks on the local level, focusing on the particular in Baltic Sea Region conditions.  Among the partners of the CASCADE project, there are three UBC member cities (Hamburg, Liepaja and Turku) and the Safe Cities Commission and the Sustainable Cities Commission.  

Water management and climate adaptation: approaching water as a resource in a climate-resilient city At the webinar on 25 May 2021 at 9.30-11.00 CET we will be talking about cities' resilience in relation to the water management. Ensuring that the city is adapted to the climate change consequences is crucial, and it's also important to ensure the efficiency of the water sector in the city.

Cascading consequences of climate hazards – How to make cities more resilient in the Baltic Sea Region? The first UBC TALKS webinar in 2021 will take place on 30 March at 9.30-11.00 CET. We will learn about strengthening of cities' resilience towards climate hazards based on the experiences of the project CASCADE.

The XXI International Environmental Forum "Baltic Sea Day" will be organized on 23-24 March 2021 under the theme "Sustainable Development for the Baltic Sea – Long Road to the Healthy Baltic Sea". UBC Sustainable Cities Commission will take an active part in the forum, presenting own activities as well as highlighting the achievements of its BSR WATER platform.

The Ecocity Forum will be held as a hybrid event on 16-17 March 2021 to enable participants to attend either virtually or in person at Lahti’s magnificent timber-built concert venue and conference centre Sibelius Hall.
