Cities across the Baltic Sea Region are increasingly looking for ways to make walking and cycling attractive, safe, and reliable throughout the year. Year-Round Active Mobility is a mindset change to ensure cycling and walking is taken into account as a means of transport throughout all four seasons, both by users and city planners. This interactive workshop invites cities to explore how year-round active mobility can be integrated into sustainable urban mobility planning in a practical and realistic way.

How Local Leaders Turn Climate Ambition into Action The Climate Budget Summit will bring together transformative trends from the city networks Union of the Baltic Cities and Eurocities, and local Mayors, decision-makers and practitioners driving the climate neutrality forward in their cities. With the moderation by HafenCity University Hamburg, we will link strategy, practice and research to examine how climate budgeting can support local climate ambitions!

When all other hurdles on the path towards climate neutrality are solved, one common bottleneck often remains – urban mobility. How to decarbonise this sector? What measures and strategic decisions to take? And how to comprehensively calculate the impact of alternative approaches? The September webinar issue looks right into this matter.

For every interested BSR city: best practices and hands-on application of the tool you can use to calculate your city's climate scenarios! Together with peers from across the Baltic Sea Region, you will exchange practical experiences in climate budgeting, explore real city use cases, and work directly with the open CADS (Climate Action Decision Support) Tool for climate scenario calculations. And how to ensure inclusive approach especially if a city has limited resources? At the webinar on 26 May 2026, we discuss how to enable local communities and especially vulnerable groups to act in case of a crisis.

Climate impacts, demographic change and growing security pressures are already affecting us and our communities. The tides are shifting, and so must we. The Forum offers a timely space to exchange experience, align priorities and strengthen cooperation across borders on resilience – how to withstand disruption, adapt and continue to function well when challenges occur, and bounce back better.

This module deepens climate budgeting by examining how to assess the financial costs and benefits of climate actions compared with business-as-usual scenarios. Participants explore different impact assessment methods used by cities of Tampere, Aarhus and Norderstedt, including cost-efficiency and cost–benefit analyses, and learn how these calculations are impacted by different scenarios.

This module focuses on building a robust climate actions portfolio grounded in existing strategies and supported by credible emissions data with an example from a national level climate inventory from Denmark. Participants learn how emissions baselines and action-level calculations are developed, including data sources and emissions factors, and how challenges are addressed in practice, with examples from Östersund, Riga and Bytom.

The third People and Planet Conference will bring together researchers, businesses, and practical actors to explore scientific findings and innovative solutions for planetary health. Together, we will examine the synergies and contradictions between biodiversity, health, and the economy, and discuss how to foster vibrant regions that benefit both people and the rest of nature.
