Our UBC Sustainable Cities Commission teamed up with the Turku University of Applied Sciences in organising a joint session, building on the research, piloting and data findings within the EMPEREST and NonHazCity3 projects. The objective of the panel was to explore how the harmful effects of hazardous substances on nature, people, and the circular economy can be minimized.

Our webinar series closed the year 2024 with the webinar about green public procurement on 26 November. This webinar brought together representatives of four BSR capitals: Stockholm, Helsinki, Riga, and Tallinn.

The BALTIPLAST project has set to document and analyze information on the varied solutions adopted or planned by local governments. The objective is to create a collection of best practices that promote the prevention and reduction of plastic waste.

The BALTIPLAST 2nd General Assembly had unfolded on 14-15 November 2023 during the Green Governance week in Tallinn, Estonia. The event was marked by active participation of the project partners in the co-creation discussions, workshops on the project solutions and shaping the upcoming pilots.

The November edition of the UBC TALKS webinars hosted the experts and city representatives sharing insights on advancing sustainable practices in plastic waste management within the municipalities. The event featured examples from 3 cities: Västerås, Helsinki, and Tallinn, shedding light on strategies, challenges, and successful initiatives in managing plastic waste.

The first general assembly of the BALTIPLAST project took place on 10-11 May in the picturesque city of Västerås, Sweden, bringing together 18 partner organizations dedicated to addressing the challenges of single-use plastic waste.

Last year’s autumn came with good news, the project that UBC Sustainable Cities Commission is part of has been approved by the Interreg BSR, and we are glad to announce that the project BALTIPLAST dedicated to reducing single-use plastic waste was kicked off on 8-10 of February 2023 in Riga.
