The Mission for Climate-Neutral and Smart Cities, or “Cities Mission” is one of five EU Missions, connected to the Horizon Europe research and innovation programme 2021–2027. The cities, jointly working towards ambitious goals and addressing energy efficiency, green mobility, and sustainable urban planning, are expected to deliver tangible results by 2030.

The 100 cities that are to become climate-neutral and smart by 2030, will act as innovation hubs enabling other European cities to follow their progress, test and replicate solutions, and learn about the experiences. As a source of experimentation and innovation ecosystems, the Cities Mission will help others in reaching the green transition by 2050.
