Events related to topic green-governance

The European Week of Regions and Cities is held in Brussels on 9-12 of October 2023. The week consists of multiple sessions with speakers and participants discussing about cohesion policy, common challenges and good practices. There are also local side events that are connected to the main event. The participants create a diverse group of government officials, representatives, politicians, academics, members of the public, journalists and so much more.

As the first of the four Macro-Regional Strategies in Europe, the Baltic Sea Region Strategy has always been a front-runner, be it innovation ecosystems, sustainability-oriented citizens, or energy security goals. Countries from the Baltic Sea Region are working together to develop renewable energy sources and to improve energy efficiency. In addition, much effort is being put into the promotion of regional trade and investment, and improving interconnections between the countries in the region and beyond.

The European Sustainability Conference is held online on the 28th of Septmeber 2023, 12:00-13:30 EEST. The agenda consists of one keynote lecture on green governance followed by panel discussions by various sustainability experts. The event is a good opportunity to learn directly from experts and take something new and innovative to impelement into sustainability topics.

The 5th Technical Workshop for the Green City Accord's signatory cities will take place virtually on 27 June at 10:00 CEST. The Federal Ministry for Housing, Urban Development and Building of Germany (Chair of the VASAB CSPD/BSR in 2022/23) invite to join the conference on the updated VASAB Vision 2040 “Vibrant, Resilient, Well-connected – The Baltic Sea Region in 2040”.

The first issue of the UBC TALKS webinars in 2023 will focus on the cooperation in the Baltic Sea Region. We invite prominent regional organisations to join us in the discussions of the role of cities in the macroregional cooperation.

The CITIES FORUM is the place and moment to exchange on the urban dimension of Cohesion Policy, the Urban Agenda for the EU, the role of cities in implementing the European Green Deal, the EU response to the urban dimension of the 2030 Territorial Agenda, as well as highlight the new EU level initiatives developed in order to support cities.

Implementing the HELCOM Baltic Sea Action Plan (BSAP), aiming for a healthy Baltic Sea, is a demanding – but feasible – task. All sectors need to be on board in reaching each one of the ambitious targets, which cover a very wide range of topics. In the UBC Sustainability Action Programme 2030, strengthening of the implementation of the HELCOM Baltic Sea Action Plan in cities is listed as one of the actions to empower and reach water-smart cities.

At the opening ceremony on 21 January, the European Green Capital title will be handed over to our member city Tallinn. Join the broadcast of the event!
