Cities.multimodal comprised of 3 thematic work packages which facilitated the planning and implementation of the following activities:
MULTIMODAL CITY QUARTERS – provide facilities
Partner cities chose a pilot area for their activities, adapted the concept of Sustainable Urban Mobility Planning (SUMP) to suit city quarters and implemented different measures:
MOBILITY POINTS made multimodal transport visible in public space and facilitated the use of sustainable transport modes and connections between them. IT SOLUTIONS for individual travel planning improved accessibility of sustainable transport modes through smartphone applications. CAMPAIGNS raised awareness for the advantages of multimodal travel. A PLANNERS’ HANDBOOK was the main output to ensure capacity building in cities beyond the project consortium.
MOBILITY MANAGEMENT – change behaviour
The project partners developed a general mobility management concept to change mobility behaviour of people. The main output was a TOOLBOX FOR MOBILITY MANAGEMENT. This contained measures for mobility management in SCHOOLS and KINDERGARDENS, COMPANIES and for INNER-CITY INVESTORS and was applied by the project partners.
CITIZEN involvement
A focus during planning and implementation of activities in the pilot area was put on involving citizens from the very start. The cities were testing at least 2 ( for them) new and innovative methods and evaluated them afterwards. Their experience, tips and tricks on different involvement methods fed into a CITIZEN INVOLVEMENT GUIDE, that is part of the PLANNERS HANDBOOK.
Results
Planner’s Handbook
The Planner’s Guide to Sustainable Urban Mobility Management inspires mobility and transport planners, politicians and NGO’s who wish to take their city’s multimodality to the next level. The Guide gives an insight to the mobility mindset of the participating cities, the chosen pilot areas, planning approaches and implemented measures.
Toolbox for Mobility Management
The toolbox provides kindergartens, schools, companies and cities with practical tools and tips for mobility management and implementation.
Multimodal travel planning analysis
The analysis focuses on website and mobile-based individual travel planning applications (ICT solutions). These ICT solutions provide different transport options and enable individualised door-to-door travel for end users. The report provides an overview of such applications and offers recommendations for the procurement process. It also covers the results of conducted market research, an analysis of partner cities’ ICT solutions, and interviews, providing a helpful starting point for cities to educate themselves about the possibilities of multimodal ICT solutions.
