Gdynia 2030: Planning mobility through participation and data

Gdynia is part of the SUMPs for BSR project (Interreg Baltic Sea Region), which supports small and mid-sized cities in creating Sustainable Urban Mobility Plans that promote walking, cycling and low-emission travel through practical tools, data collection and pilot activities.

The event opened with remarks from Anders Ekman, a local politician actively engaged in mobility issues in Gävle. He shared experiences of the city working towards reaching the ambitious climate goals, emphasising the importance of influencing the travel choices made by citizens. Like in many other cities, in Gävle, transport emissions and car dependency remain the key barriers to reaching climate goals.

Empowering BSR Cities to shift towards Sustainable Urban Mobility: SUMPs for BSR Project kicks off in Turku

The project consortium has convened in the City of Turku – the host city of the UBC Sustainable Cities Commission and the lead partner of the project. The kick-off meeting, held on 9-10 January, has brought together the experts and practitioners in urban mobility planning from the consortium, fostering discussions on shared challenges and collective solutions.

Mid-September is the perfect time to visit Turku, an ambitiously smart and sustainable city in Finland, working towards reaching carbon neutrality already in 2029. Turku is built around the river Aura – but what’s more important (at least where the international cooperation is concerned), it also stands on the shores of the Baltic Sea. Like in many other cities, for a long time Turku citizens have had a limited access to the sea due to different industries and port activities.

UBC cities are ramping up their efforts on the way towards climate neutrality
