22 UBC cities continued disclosure to CDP in 2021

Increasing local level resilience in the Baltic Sea Region

The CASCADE project brought together civil protection professionals and climate change adaptation experts to build urban resilience in cities and towns, as well as the overall macro–regional resilience. Among the nine partners of the CASCADE project, there were three UBC member cities (Turku, Liepaja, and Hamburg) and the Safe Cities Commission and the Sustainable Cities Commission involved.

In order to get feedback, please contact before 25 June 2021. The deadline is in place to ensure CDP has enough time to go through your responses and give feedback as well as for you to have enough time to make changes before the deadline of 29th of June.

BRT (Bus Rapid Transit) Örebro

If we continue to travel as we do today, as half of all trips made in Örebro are car journeys, the number of trips by car increases by about 35%. With such an increase, the existing space in our street and traffic system is not enough. We need to stop this development with more vehicles and focus on a efficient solution for how people will be able to transport themselves through the city in the future.
Kiel on its way to become a Zero.Waste.City

In cooperation with the Wuppertal Institute and supported by the Zero Waste Kiel Association, the city of Kiel developed a 270 pages long term zero waste-strategy in a large participatory process. Beneath two main targets for the whole city, the strategy includes 107 measures and 18 sector-specific goals for waste prevention in the sectors educational institutions, households, industry, retail and events as well as public administration and waste management. Green and sustainable Kemi - now for Companies

In the previous project the focus was on city organization. All the branches were challenged to act in a more climate friendly way. Sorting and circulating of waste were improved, energy and water consumption was reduced, Social kitchen was established to reduce food waste and increase usage of vegetables. And so on. As a result, Kemi is now the second municipality in Finland having ISO 14001:2015 environmental certificate.
