Sustainable Cities Bulletin 1/2024

Dear UBC colleagues,

Warm spring greetings from the UBC Sustainable Cities Commission! The world is preparing to bloom with green spaces and new ideas, and it’s a good time to share with you our latest materials, impacts and openings!

As the main spring reading, we are proud to publish the Annual Report 2023 introducing the range of activities we have implemented in our Secretariat for- and in cooperation with our member cities throughout previous year. In it, you will find out how our activities contribute to the implementation of the UBC Sustainability Action Programme 2030 goals, learn the latest climate trends from the UBC-CDP cooperation 2023 report, and find interesting articles from UBC members, submitted to the previous editions of the Sustainable Cities Bulletin!

Among different news and upcoming events, we are also proud to announce the save-the-date for the next Commission meeting! Following the exciting cross-sectoral discussions last year, in 2024 we will again organise the joint Commission meeting between UBC Sustainable and Planning Cities Commissions, it will take place on 9-12 September 2024 in Gdansk. Insightful presentations, guided walks and hands-on planning of sustainable urban spaces will focus on “Sustainable transformation for resilient coastal cities”.

You can find inspiration for these discussions in video interviews recorded at the Commission meeting in 2023 in Turku, where we asked the UBC SCC Advisory Board members to share their thoughts on revitalisation of urban areas and climate change adaptation measures in their cities.

Last but not least, we encourage you to join our upcoming events! For UBC TALKS series alone, we still have 3 more webinars coming up this year – don’t miss them, register and book your calendars for Tuesday mornings in May, September and November!

Yours,
UBC Sustainable Cities Commission
