Pathways to remove hazardous substances from wastewater

To address this issue, on 16 February 2021 we organized a workshop "Pathways to targeted PFAS removal – from policy to technology" to discuss the approaches to PFAS removal, joined by 50 participants. The workshop was held by the seed project EMPEREST that focuses on the current situation and viable solutions regarding sources and pathways of PFAS in the Baltic Sea region.

The webinar series consists of four sessions, each devoted to a specific project theme. The first session covered the Living Street cases of Tartu (EST) presented by Kaspar Alev, and Gdansk (POL) presented by Magdalena Szymanska. A Living Street is a street or an intersection that is temporarily closed from motorized traffic and is made into an urban living room for the citizens to enjoy.
UBC cities are ramping up their efforts on the way towards climate neutrality

In the meantime, despite the uncertainty brought by COVID-19, we cannot say enough how happy we are to see 23 UBC cities disclosing and staying committed to their climate change mitigation efforts. In 2020 we saw 3 newcomers (Bergen, Porvoo, Tallinn) whom we would like to congratulate joining the disclosure and climate action for the better future.

Nutrient recycling from wastewater: developing regional strategy

Reuse and recovery of phosphorus from wastewater explored in the BSR WATER platform. One of the main outputs of the BSR WATER is the “Pallet of solutions for nutrient recycling in the Baltic Sea region”, foreseen as an integral part of the HELCOM Regional Nutrient Recycling Strategy.
