The conference “The Future of Water in the Changing World: Innovative solutions against PFAS and micropollutants” was organized by two sister projects, EMPEREST and APRIORA, marking the successful ending of EMPEREST, while APRIORA continues its work for another year. Both projects stem from EU legislation change, namely the revision of the directive regulating urban wastewater treatment.

Throughout June 2025, UBC SCC organized a set of 3 training events to increase understanding of plastic pollution consequences and prevention methods for local authorities in the Baltic Sea Region. In these series, we have educated over 70 experts in sustainability, circular economy and climate!

The BALTIPLAST project has set to document and analyze information on the varied solutions adopted or planned by local governments. The objective is to create a collection of best practices that promote the prevention and reduction of plastic waste.

The EMPEREST project started the process of identifying potential PFAS risks on the municipal level with a series of workshops for the project consortium and invited local experts in Riga.

The first general assembly of the BALTIPLAST project took place on 10-11 May in the picturesque city of Västerås, Sweden, bringing together 18 partner organizations dedicated to addressing the challenges of single-use plastic waste.

Last year’s autumn came with good news, the project that UBC Sustainable Cities Commission is part of has been approved by the Interreg BSR, and we are glad to announce that the project BALTIPLAST dedicated to reducing single-use plastic waste was kicked off on 8-10 of February 2023 in Riga.
