We were represented during the XIV UBC General Conference that took place this time in the Greenest City in Europe – Växjö, Sweden, between 24 and 27 October 2017.

The Agenda was tight for all UBC Commissions and conference participants alike. On the morning of the first conference day on October 24, all the Commissions held a commission meeting – during our meeting, the Advisory Board gathered to appoint new board members and to discuss relevant matters and upcoming tasks. Baltic Water Excellence Forum took place later in the afternoon, where participants learnt about water resource management and heard good examples from other UBC member cities. Baltic Smart Water Hub was introduced to the conference participants. The Hub had been launched a few days before during the IWAMA Water Forum.

The most important day for our Commission was Wednesday 25th of October, when during the Interactive parallel thematic meeting with the topic of “Sustainable Development Goals in local & regional setting” took place. The “Climate Leadership in Baltic Sea Region Cities” report was launched during the second half of the meeting. The report itself was the result of one year of co-operation between UBC and CDP and showcased important climate adaptation and mitigation successes and bottlenecks in the UBC cities.

Least but not last, our Communication Team was broadcasting live interviews with city representatives, experts and youth participants during all conference days at our Studio Stand. Interviewees included new UBC vice-president Mantas Jurgutis from Klaipeda, Lithuania and Shirin Reuvers from CDP.
