On 29 September 2026, we explored how sustainable mobility and climate budgeting can help cities close the remaining gap towards climate neutrality.
The webinar opened with a discussion on integrated mobility planning as a climate tool, presented by Marcin Wołek (University of Gdańsk) and Maarja Käger (Institute of Baltic Studies), who shared experiences from the SUMPs for BSR project and highlighted the role of mobility planning in addressing climate goals. Magdalena Szymańska (Gdańsk Public Transport Authority) then presented Gdańsk’s updated Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan and the city's progress in promoting active and sustainable mobility. The link between transport measures and climate budgeting was further explored by Hanna Meriläinen (City of Tampere), who demonstrated how climate budgeting supports decision-making and prioritisation of mobility actions. Finally, Rasmus Vermum (Östersund Municipality) presented climate neutrality scenarios for the transport sector, showing how data and climate budgeting can help cities understand and communicate different pathways towards emission reductions.
