Workshop will include short presentations on challenges in municipal wastewater treatment related to capacity development of operators, energy efficiency and sludge handling.

Presented perspectives will illustrate the cooperation needs of wastewater treatment sector in Russia, Poland, Baltic and Nordic countries, and Germany, and will be given by high-profile experts in the field, such as Dr Michael Begak from Saint-Petersburg Scientific Research Centre for Environmental Safety, Russian Academy of science, and Ralf Schüler from German Water and Wastewater Association (DWA) - Region North East.

However, the main focus is on discussions and experience exchange between participants. The objective of the workshop is to develop ideas for a new transnational co-operation project focused on activities in the three abovementioned key challenges.
