The UBC Sustainable Cities Commission continuously spurs the Unions’ currently about 90 member cities on making the Baltic Sea Region more sustainable.
We offer several ways to exchange information and experiences between colleagues from other cities on sustainability topics. Participating in the projects run by the commission and the events organised by us is a great opportunity to learn from each other!
In order to spread the good experiences and other sustainability related news from the member cities and from our projects we publish the Baltic Cities Environmental Bulletin once a year. The Bulletin presents the latest news and success stories from our member cities and the Sustainable Cities Secretariat.
For up-to date information and news we have a quarterly electronic Bulletin with updates from the secretariat and the running projects, deadlines for funding programmes and events in the region and Europe-wide.
Both publications, together with the website and the commission meetings, are the main channels for communication and networking with our member cities.
If you are interested to contribute to the next issues, please contact our Communications Coordinator Anna Kotaviita.
Twice a year, we organise commission meetings. To cover a wide range of sustainability topics, the meetings are often organised together with other UBC Commissions as for Planning Cities and Smart and Prospering Cities Commissions. The meetings are hosted by member cities, which have a great say in putting together an interesting programme on a topic close to their heart. The Commission meetings provide an excellent opportunity to meet, discuss current issues with colleagues around the region, and bring up ideas for example for new projects.
UBC Sustainability Action Programme 2016-2021
The Sustainability Action Programme 2010-2015 is the guiding document for the whole UBC towards development of a smart and sustainable Baltic Sea Region. The programme gives strategic direction to the realisation of our vision of the UBC cities in the future - creating a smart, safe and sustainable Baltic Sea Region. The program is the basis of the work at the Sustainable Cities Commission and project development work is closely linked to it.
This Action Programme was adopted as an annex to the UBC Strategy 2016–2021 by the XIII UBC General Conference in October 2015 in Gdynia, Poland, and it was guided and produced by the UBC Sustainable Cities Commission in collaboration with other UBC member cities.
