Dear UBC colleagues,
As the year draws to a close and the festive season approaches, I would like to extend my warmest Christmas greetings to all members of the UBC Sustainable Cities Commission community.
The end of the year invites reflection, and I would like to sincerely thank you for your commitment, collaboration and inspiring contributions to the Commission's activities and events throughout the past year. Together, we have continued to advance sustainable urban transitions in our cities and strengthened partnerships through local initiatives and big transnational projects. We shared knowledge that supports climate-proof and nature-positive cities across our network through several important events – our annual Sustainable Cities Commission meeting held in Malmö and UBC General Conference in Slupsk – as well as numerous local workshops and UBC TALKS webinars. Your engagement and dedication are the foundation for further successful collaboration.
Looking ahead to the new year, we enter 2026 with newly appointed Advisory Board and even stronger ambition to jointly address many pressing challenges that cities are facing: climate pressures, biodiversity loss and water pollution just to mention few. New opportunities lie ahead to deepen city-to-city cooperation, exchange practical solutions and further accelerate local climate and biodiversity actions. In this edition, you will discover how our upcoming activities, projects and events continue to provide spaces for learning, innovation and partnership-building, and I warmly invite you to remain actively involved.
May the Christmas season bring you well-deserved rest, inspiration and time with loved ones, and may the new year open new pathways for collaboration and sustainable urban progress!
Sincerely yours,
Agnieszka Ilola, Head of Secretariat, with the UBC SCC Team
