How can cities strengthen resilience and preparedness in the face of increasing climate risks? In Jyväskylä, Finland, this question is being addressed through the project combining data, planning and collaboration to turn climate knowledge into practical action.

The autumn–winter edition of the “I Walk to School/Kindergarten” campaign in Gdynia reached thousands of families and strengthened the belief that alternatives to travelling by car are common and natural.

By connecting climate objectives with financial planning and decision-making, climate budgeting helps cities ensure that resources are directed towards actions that support emissions reductions and long-term sustainability goals. Our Commission joined the EUSBSR Annual Forum on 11-13 May 2026 in Tallinn and shared highlights from our city network with its 500 participants. With cities in the center of the discussions, we oranised a session on urban mobility, supported the discussions on climate resilience, introduced a range of concrete tools in climate budgeting, green procurement and hazardous substances governance, and also run the Networking Village stand of UBC.

The HAZGONE platform launches a dialogue around the topic of hazardous substances, approaching it from both sides of the stream: preventive measures in production and consumption, and treatment of micropollutants in waste and wastewater. The first of the HAZGONE Forums was launched in Hamburg as a space for the expert discussion.

Every day, we hear more about the forever chemicals called PFAS in the media. The news often deal with novel research showing the harm PFAS can cause to human health. In medical research, reduced immune system, diminished response to vaccines especially in children, increased cancer risk and blood pressure, decreased fertility already have been connected to PFAS exposure – and the publication of the results often makes headlines.

The meeting opened with a simple exercise – going around the table and asking: where do we stand now? What has worked, what has been difficult, and what are we learning?
