This year's midterm conference of HUPMOBILE was supposed to be held in Hamburg. However, due to the Coronavirus outbreak, we cannot organize it as a face-to-face conference. Instead, we are organizing two short virtual events on different days discussing the future of mobility in the Baltic Sea Region cities. During these two days, we will focus on the concept of Fusion Mobility and whether COVID-19 has an impact on the development of sustainable mobility. Both webinars are open for everyone and free of charge.

The UBC TALKS webinar in November will open up the theme "Ensuring water safety from hazardous substances". We will talk about ways to improve addressing hazardous substances in the wastewater treatment process, how to tackle industrial discharges into the municipal wastewater treatment line, and discuss best ways to raise awareness of citizens regarding their role in this cycle.

The 11th EUSBSR Annual Forum will take place online on 20 October 2020. The theme of the Forum this year is "Our Region, Our Future – Towards a Decade of Innovation and Sustainability".

The workshop will focus on the climate change related security risks and on supporting the integration of the climate aspects into the EU Strategy for the Baltic Sea Region after 2020. The workshop will be organized on 12 October 2020 11.00–13.40 CET by the Council of the Baltic Sea States and UBC Sustainable Cities Commission.

Over the past four years, the three CIVITAS Living Lab projects – CIVITAS DESTINATIONS, CIVITAS ECCENTRIC and CIVITAS PORTIS – have been testing and demonstrating innovative mobility solutions.

The EUSBSR workshop "Unlocking the nutrient recycling potential in the Baltic Sea Region" will discuss the state-of-the-art in nutrient recycling within and across the two sectors: agriculture and municipal wastewater management. The workshop will be organized on 30 September 2020, 13.00–15.30 CET (14.00–16.30 EET) via Zoom.

Lisbon was chosen to host the 5th edition of the URBAN FUTURE Global Conference (UFGC), Europe’s largest event for sustainable cities, that will bring together around 3,000 decision makers and professionals from over 60 countries from 1st to 3rd April 2020. 

In March, we invite all UBC cities to join the discussion on what are the best practices on environmental data disclosure to CDP. As the next reporting period is approaching fast, it is good to be prepared and ask fellow UBC cities who have been reporting since the beginning of UBC-CDP cooperation to share their experiences and tips on how to manage the deadlines, finding relevant data, getting political commitment and more. Lahti, Tartu and Riga are the UBC cities sharing their best practices at the UBC TALKS this time!

International environmental campaign “Clean Beach” devoted to well-being of the Baltic Sea environment is held on 18 May 2019 in St. Petersburg (Russia). The event provides opportunity to participate in the cleaning of beaches and to get information about the effects of litter on water bodies and seas through raising awareness and interactive involvement. At the regional level, campaign “Clean Beach” contributes to the implementation of the HELCOM Regional Action Plan on Marine Litter from Baltic parties.

The Regional Water Day, or Varsinais-Suomen vesipäivä takes place on 19 March 2019 in Turku, Finland. This event is organized in cooperation with the IWAMA project on improving smart wastewater management in the Baltic Sea Region.

Vulnerable groups such as children, the elderly, or people with disabilities depend on public transportation and an accessible public space to stay mobile. Women are the largest user group of public transport. Therefore, sustainable urban mobility planning needs to provide inclusive and accessible means of mobility for all of these groups.

Analysing the mobility situation and developing scenarios of possible future mobility situations helps to set the goals for your city’s Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan. In order to know where you want to go and how you're going to get there, you first need to know where you are currently standing.

The 2nd SUMPs-Up webinar organised on February 20th 10:00-11:30 CET focuses on analyzing the mobility situation and collecting data collection for SUMP. As a city case example, the City of Malmö presents how they collect and use different data for planning their transport measures. Malmö combines several methods of collecting data, and has piloted recently some innovative data collection methods based on a digital travel survey based on an app.

UBC cities are invited to join the 4th webinar of Baltic Urban Lab (August 23rd, 2018) will focus on the possibilities that new digital tools can bring in participatory urban planning. Baltic Urban Lab cities Tallinn and Norrköping have both developed and tested new tools to encourage different stakeholders, especially citizens to give their feedback and learn more about current planning issues. Tallinn has developed AvaLinn Mobile App and Norrköping 3D visualisation tool Earth Autopsy. The tools have been tested in the planning of the two brownfield sites - The Skoone Bastion in Tallinn & the Inner Harbour area in Norrköping. Norrköping and Tallinn will share their practical experinces on the development and use of tools and give tips to other cities that are interested to develop similar tools.

The 9th Annual Forum of the EUSBSR will be held in Tallinn on 4 – 5 June 2018. The Forum will be hosted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Estonia together with the Baltic Development Forum in close cooperation with the European Commission and other partners. About 700 participants from governments, international organisations, NGOs, universities, local and regional administrations and businesses will come together to discuss developments and challenges in the Baltic Sea Region. The Annual Forum is co-financed from the programme of Interreg Baltic Sea Region.

The iWater project Final Conference will be held on 7-8 May 2018 in Riga, Latvia.

The 73^rd Executive Board Meeting of the Union of the Baltic Cities will take place in Dolina Charlotty, Poland between the 10th and the 14th June 2015.

The meeting will serve as a framework for discussions on general UBC metters and for networking activities. During the event, the Communications Seminar's follow up will also be hosted.

The eighth Baltic Sea Region Forum will take place in Turku on the 4th of June 201. This year's theme: "What does the Cold Peace between the EU and Russia mean for the Baltic Sea region?" will focus on on business and economics, environmental co-operation, regional co-operation and on research findings on the topic.
