The 2nd European Conference on Sustainable Urban Mobility Plans (SUMPs) will be held at the Polytechnic University in Bucharest, Romania from 16-17 June 2015.

Less than two years after the publication of the European Commission’s Urban Mobility Package (2013) and related Guidelines (2014), there is now a large and expanding network of cities committed to the preparation and implementation of Sustainable Urban Mobility Plans. This includes cities and institutions involved in various EU projects and initiatives, designed to drive forward mobility planning research, practice and innovation.

The European SUMPs Conference is the most prominent event involving the international Sustainable urban mobility community. The conference is a forum where policy makers and academics across Europe can debate key issues and receive updates about Sustainable Urban Mobility Planning. The participants are invited to discuss and exchange ideas on how the Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan concept can be adjusted to suit different city geographical contexts, scales and budgets as well as approaches that can be taken to ensure mobility and accessibility is improved for everyone in society.  

Last year the conference took place in Sopot, Poland and was supported by the Baltic Sea Region Competence Centre on SUMP. The Baltic Sea Region Competence Centre on SUMP brings together the knowledge and good examples of sustainable urban mobility planning from the Baltic Sea Region. The aim of the competence centre is to assist cities in developing their SUMPs by giving information, support, exchange of knowledge and experience as well as training on the process itself.

Also CIVITAS DYN@MO and CH4LLENGE projects UBC is involved in are working with Sustainable Urban Mobility Plans, DYN@MO focusing on citizen involvement in the mobility planning process and CH4LLENGE addressing the key challenges of SUMPs: participation, cooperation, selection of measures and monitoring and evaluation.
