Moving Sustainably - Guide to Sustainable Urban Transport Plans

As people travel to buy goods and use services, they generate traffic. It is the ordinary day-to-day activities of urban residents - going to the shops, visiting the dentist or attending school - that generate traffic. Many cities face a multitude of challenges related to these activities, congestion, noise, air quality issues, health, safety, quality of life and the problem with a multitude of diverting policies in the field of urban transport. Urban mobility issues are complex and cannot be successfully solved by simple transport plans. They require radical new policy instruments together with an integrated approach to mobility and the design of the cities. This toolkit provides guidance for city planners, administrators and decision-makers on how to meet these challenges through the process of a sustainable urban transport plan (SUTP).
