BSR IWAMA Seed project
Objective of BSR IWAMA Seed project is to develop a concept for the main project that would reduce nutrient loads from municipal wastewater treatment plants. This is achieved through combining high quality lifelong learning and knowledge transfer with investments in energy efficiency and sludge management. In addition it is expected that investments will reduce the carbon foot print of treatment.
Consortium of the IWAMA project includes Union of the Baltic Cities Sustainable Cities Commission (Lead Partner), Lahden Seudun Kehitys LADEC Oy, Technical University of Berlin and Aqua Consult Baltic/University of Tartu. Additional partners are water utilities of Hamburg and St. Petersburg.
Project was implemented in 2014 and it is co-funded by the Seed Money Facility of the European Union.
First of the planned IWAMA Seed project's workshops took place on 28 May 2014 in Tallinn, Estonia. The second workshop was held on 1 October 2014 in Riga, Latvia, where prospective partners have presented and discussed their suggested activities for the main stage project.
IWAMA project concept note developed during the Seed project was submitted to the Interreg Baltic Sea Region Programme 2014-2020, under the Priority 2 “Management of natural resources”, Specific objective 2.1 "Clear waters". It was later further developed into a complete application, subsequently submitted in the framework of step 2 of the application process on 8 July 2015.
