Sustainable Cities Bulletin 2/2021

Dear UBC colleagues,

After 14 months of living in a pandemic, our region is slowly but steadily recovering from this challenging time. It is to be seen in the future how these extraordinary circumstances will have impacted ourselves, our ways of working and our future cooperation – perhaps also what we have learned going through this!

Summer is around the corner and we are awaiting sunny days and continuously decreasing restrictions for all of us, still, it is important to be solidaric and take good care of ourselves and others.

At the UBC Sustainable Cities Commission, we have or are finalizing numerous projects, while we already plan and develop new ideas for the upcoming funding period. Many calls are about to open between now and the end of the year and we hope for many good ideas to be developed together.

Within UBC, we are halfway into our 30th anniversary year, that will culminate at the XVI General Conference 27-30 October 2021. This will also be the place where our UBC Sustainability Action Programme 2022-2030 will be presented for approval. The work to develop an ambitious programme is well underway – after consulting member cities in numerous thematic working groups, we carried out a wide consultation and information process among UBC member cities and UBC bodies, which provided us with valuable input to develop the programme into a strong common document for our whole network. There will be a final online consultation round for all member cities in August/September, where you can have your say on the final draft texts before the Action Programme will be presented at the General Conference. We will inform you about all details in due time.

Until then, we wish you a relaxing and safe summer!
