UBC Sustainable Cities Commission – what can we do for you?

The news have spread already on different communication channels: We are now the UBC Sustainable Cities Commission.
Through the restructuring of the whole organization, UBC decided to reduce the number of commissions from 13 to 7 and at the same time combine the thematical fields into bigger entities, as it happened for the topics of environment, transport and energy which are now all combined in UBC Sustainable Cities Commission.

The city of Turku continues to host our secretariat and also most of the staff remains the same: currently we are 7 full time international employees working with a variety of projects and UBC events.

How to get involved
We seek to continuously improve our communication and services for our member cities:

UBC Sustainability eBulletin/ Bulletin
One of our new communication means is the Sustainability eBulletin you are reading!
From now on we will quarterly publish an electronic update from our work, ongoing projects, relevant events, funding possibilities and whatever can be interesting to us and you. If you have something to contribute, that you want us to disseminate, pleaseesther.kreutz [at] ubc.net ( contact us)!

Additionally we will continue to have one printed UBC Sustainability Bulletin per year: here the member cities can, as before, publish their stories and promote their sustainable activities. The next printed bulletin is planned for the UBC General Conference in October and we will send out a call for stories after the summer break.

We are happy to receive feedback on the new eBulletin and our communication in general, either by esther.kreutz [at] ubc.net (email) or via facebook!

Services for UBC member cities
For our member cities we offer different services, from project development to consultation and training, as well as our “traditional” networking activities. You find information about all of these on our website

Next up is the UBC Sustainable Cities Commission meeting in Turku, on June 3-4 2015. For this meeting we invite you all especially warmly, because it will mark the launch of our new commission. We will discuss the structure of our commission, elect co-chairs and the advisory board, and – most important- further discuss and develop the UBC Sustainability Action Programme 2016-2020. Furthermore the meeting will also further develop a project application on “Circular Economy in the Baltic Sea Region”.
