Apply for European Green Leaf 2018 and European Green Capital Award 2019

Does your city want to become green? In May 2016,  application period for the European Commission’s European Green Capital Award 2019 and European Green Leaf 2018 has been opened. The European Green Capital Award is given to the cities exceeding 100.000 inhabitants that have shown outstanding commitment to sustainable urban development. The European Green Leaf, introduced in 2015, is an award for smaller-sized cities (20.000-100.000 inhabitants).
 
Why should cities apply?
  • Take stock with a free environmental audit by a panel of 12 experts;
  • Join a network of applicants and winners;
  • Show your citizens your commitment to sustainability and mobilise partners;
  • Earn official recognition, increased visibility, investments and tourism.

Application period is open from May until 3 November 2016. Find all details about applying here. Applicant workshops will be organized for applicant cities in order to help with the application process on 13 June 2016  (a webstreamed workshop for European Green Leaf) and 1 July 2016  (a workshop for European Green Capital in Brussels)  (note: in case if you cannot make it to Brussels, a recording of the event will be posted online early July).

Finalists chosen for the current competitions

The European Commission has announced the finalist cities to advance to the next stage of the ongoing European Green Capital and European Green Leaf competitions.

Umeå, Sweden

European Green Leaf 2017:

Cornellà de Llobregat, Spain
Galway, Ireland
Mikkeli, Finland
