As part of the HUPMOBILE-Holistic Urban and Peri-urban Mobility project, the Borough of Altona, representing Hamburg, developed a concept for “last mile” logistics. The term “last mile” refers to distribution within an urban space, especially parcel delivery with cargo bikes.

Circular Economy in Gdansk: latest services and implemented projects

In 2020 we started with opening a hermetic composting plant, which is ready to process 40 000 tons of biowaste per year. This modern instalation (co-financed by EU) is permanently ventilated, and because of that, there is no unpleasant smell outside during the 5 weeks compost production process. Our next investment is to place on the city map 6 new selective waste collection points, and 2 of them are already being built.

EUCF’s second call for proposals is announced — get ready to apply!

In the second EUCF round an even larger number of cities and municipalities will be selected to benefit from tailor-made support and access the grant of €60,000 to develop an investment concept - an initial step towards a fully-fledged business and financial plan. Pathways to remove hazardous substances from wastewater

To address this issue, on 16 February 2021 we organized a workshop "Pathways to targeted PFAS removal – from policy to technology" to discuss the approaches to PFAS removal, joined by 50 participants. The workshop was held by the seed project EMPEREST that focuses on the current situation and viable solutions regarding sources and pathways of PFAS in the Baltic Sea region.

The webinar series consists of four sessions, each devoted to a specific project theme. The first session covered the Living Street cases of Tartu (EST) presented by Kaspar Alev, and Gdansk (POL) presented by Magdalena Szymanska. A Living Street is a street or an intersection that is temporarily closed from motorized traffic and is made into an urban living room for the citizens to enjoy.

Our last year of implementation was of course overshadowed by the COVID pandemic and forced us to be very flexible and adaptive, but a 6 months prolongation helped us to implement almost everything that was planned initially. Now we are coming to a closure in March - time to reflect on what the project has brought to the cities and our region!
