Webinar: Integrating SUMPs to urban planning, energy and climate strategies

cover of the SUMPS guidelines

Urban planning, climate and energy work and sustainable urban mobility planning have all one goal: to plan and develop cities and municipalities in a sustainable climate-friendly way. Therefore, the integration of different strategies and approaches is of utmost importance. It prevents double work in city administrations and facilitates the efficient and successful implementation of  strategies.

The sixth SUMPs-Up Webinar for mobility practitioners will focus on how to integrate Sustainable Urban Mobility Plans (SUMPs) into urban planning, climate and energy strategies. We will hear about the SIMPLA project, which aimed at harmonizing Sustainable Energy Action Plans and SUMPs through capacity building activities for small- and medium-sized municipalities. The project produced comprehensive guidelines on how cities can coordinate and integrate their work on climate and energy with sustainable mobility planning and harmonise the two concepts of Sustainable Energy and Climate Plans (SECAP) with the Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan (SUMP).

In addition, we will hear a city case example from the City of Lahti, who developed an extensive integrated urban development plan “Lahti Direction”.
