International Environmental Forum Baltic Sea Day 2020
The XXI International Environmental Forum "Baltic Sea Day" will be organized on 19–20 March 2020 in St. Petersburg to discuss environmental challenges to the state of the sea.
The theme for this year's Forum is Sustainable Development for the Baltic Sea – Long Road to the Healthy Baltic Sea: Evaluating implementation of the BSAP 2007–2021. The forum will focus on the topics of smart management of nutrients, micropollutants and hazardous substances in water, MSP, as well as on the river basin management, addressing climate change, the need for sustainable management of water basins and other topical issues in the Baltic Sea Region. Baltic Sea Day is organized on the same days as the exhibition "Ecology of the Big City".
The first day of the Forum will open with a plenary session and panel discussion on the implementation of the HELCOM Baltic Sea Action Plan. It will continue with parallel round table discussions featuring experts highlighting trends, challenges and good practices in the region. On the second day, participants will proceed with the round table discussions and summarize the outcomes of the event in the closing session.

UBC Sustainable Cities Commission will take part in the Forum with an Advisory Board meeting with water and climate experts.
Moreover, the activities and findings from the BSR WATER platform led by our Commission will be presented in several parallel sessions during the event. The seminar no.2 Hazardous Substances – updating HELCOM framework will highlight the platform's input into the development of recommendations on managing hazardous substances in wastewater. Further, the seminar no. 5 Increasing resilience of the Baltic Sea to climate change will include examples of the platform's work on sustainable stormwater management.
