Clean Beach Campaign

Traditional international environmental campaign “Clean Beach” devoted to well-being of the Baltic Sea environment will be held for the 6th time on 18 May 2019 in St. Petersburg (Russia). The event provides opportunity to participate in the actual cleaning of beaches and to get information about the effects of litter on water bodies and seas through raising awareness and interactive involvement. Moreover, campaign “Clean Beach” at regional level is considered as contribution into implementation of the HELCOM Regional Action Plan on Marine Litter from Baltic parties.

In St. Petersburg, in cooperation with cities of Helsinki (Finland), Turku (Finland) and Tallinn (Estonia) where on 4 May campaign will be held as well, the international environmental campaign “Clean Beach” will be dedicated to improving the environmental situation on beaches of the Gulf of Finland, developing cooperation inside the Baltic sea region and increase environmental awareness of Baltic citizens.

The campaign is open to associations, societies, business, cities, institutions, students, families, and groups of friends, as well as individual citizens. All together they are welcome to participate in environment-educational quest combining the cleaning of beaches including the process of separate waste collection with sport and smart tasks for team brainstorming. Moreover focused monitoring of marine litter via HELCOM methodology will be implemented on the resolved area at the beach. Activities will be conducted at the shore of the Gulf of Finland named Morskie Dubki in Primorsky district of Saint-Petersburg.

This event is not just about cleaning up beaches by volunteers but about education and raising public awareness of the Baltic Sea and freshwater and environment issues; and giving people a good opportunity to make a difference to the environmental well-being of the shore through involving and extension of voluntary networks and international cooperation for common Baltic sea area.

Transfer to the Action venue will be provided for participants as well as light snacks from field kitchen at the place.

The environmental campaign is organized by the initiative of the Committee for Nature Use, Environmental Protection and Ecological Safety of St. Petersburg via coordination by State company “Mineral”.
